Cork is a totally natural and breathable material: its use does not damage the plant as wood might do, it does not pollute, as aluminum might do, it breathes: so your solid product will dry out even if placed in a closed container preserving its compactness intact.
In fact, because it is breathable your solid can be stored inside even when wet! Safe transportation for travel or when you are away from home.
We want to say a few words about cork processing.
Soft gold , as they call it in Sardinia, is extracted, as the Law requires: every 10 years. If the thickness is not deemed adequate, it can go up to 15 years, in full respect of the time of creation!
The operation is done by experienced personnel who carve the bark on the surface without damaging the delicate underlying tissues, so the tree will continue to thrive.
By exfoliating the cork, the tree continues to produce more oxygen, helping to clean up the air we all breathe.
Just think that in one year, cork trees in Italy alone produce 14 million tons of oxygen!
Cork tree forests are called cork forests and have been preserved over the centuries because of their functionality. Corks for wine bottles, lids for amphorae and other objects were made from this material.
But modern society desires items that are easier to produce and use less time. The advent of plastic and silicone is coming, alternatives to the natural product-but while in production and during dispersal in the environment: both highly polluting!
