Is there a correlation between oily skin and oily hair?
Yes. They are both a consequence of excessive sebum production by the sebaceous glands. The latter are particularly abundant on the scalp and the central area of the face, called the "T" zone (forehead, nose, edges of the nose, chin) and on the upper part of the trunk (back, décolleté). These are the typical areas of oily skin.
What are the causes?
The causes are mainly genetic, that is, skin type is mostly determined by individual genetic makeup. However, it should be pointed out that sebum production is influenced in an important way by sex hormones. However, excessive cleansing and the use of unsuitable cosmetics can also alter the hydrolipid film of the most delicate areas and at the same time accentuate the overactivity of the sebaceous glands.
